FranceArchives

Managed by the Interministerial Service of Archives of France (SIAF), FranceArchives acts as a centralized national aggregator that cross-references inventories from numerous partner public archival institutions nationwide. The platform offers specialized search features, including an overarching federation engine, a targeted individual name database for genealogical research, interactive geographical maps of archives, and historical thematic guides. Rather than hosting digitized materials directly, it directs researchers to original source repositories via outbound navigation links or provides consultation details for physical viewing rooms. The website delivers high practical value to historians, genealogists, and citizens by providing structured regulatory frameworks for electronic archiving alongside free access to historical datasets under open-data licensing.
