VADS

VADS functions as a specialized national online database hosting a collective portfolio of over 140,000 high-quality digitized images sourced from more than 300 libraries, museums, and archive collections across the United Kingdom. The platform covers a vast academic spectrum of visual art disciplines, including fine art, applied arts, architecture, design, fashion, textiles, and media. Tailored specifically for UK higher and further education communities—including students, teachers, art historians, and researchers—the website features an open-access searchable catalog, structured A-Z digital collection guides, and image-based learning modules curated by specialist lecturers. The practical value of VADS lies in providing copyright-cleared primary sources for lectures, dissertation research, and course assignments, alongside offering expert consulting guidance on digital resource preservation and project management within creative education.
